Called into action again...Capturing with the Afidus ATL-200 TimeLapse Camera
If you’ve read my other blog entries, do you hear a recurring theme happening?
A dear friend asked if I would be able to document the cookie delivery operation for a local group of Girl Scouts. Why is this important? Because, simply, I thought it would be cool. Literally! Waiting for 45 minutes in 5 degree weather, outside the St. Charles City Hall for a semi truck and box truck to unload precious contents, the long awaited, highly sought after, Girl Scout Cookies.
This concept was pulled off using two Afidus ATL-200 long term time lapse cameras, a Canon 6DII fitted with a 16-35 lens and a GoPro7. Shooting “Run-and-Gun” style for this was pretty busy. All camera angles were brainstormed and prepared ahead of time with a shoot list. More accurately, “hey let's be sure to cover…” Monitoring all the cameras during key events was the key to capturing this over a 4 hour event.
HERE’S A FUN FACT:
This is the first release of a promo video documenting a non-profit event utilizing the Afidus ATL-200 time lapse camera.
One Afidus Camera was posted outside to capture the full pallets moving from the trucks to the sorting area. Another one was stationed briefly to catch the interior of the truck contents being moved out. As soon as the 13 pallets were off, the cameras were moved indoors for broad and detailed views of the cases being sorted.
Using the Afidus ATL-200 Camera was easy with the in app controls through the phone. From here you have full control on basic and advanced operations. For this capture I used the following camera settings:
Best Quality Setting: 4
Auto Daylight Exposure
Ratio: 16:9
Interval Capture 1 second
Frames Per second: 30
Brightness and Exposure set to 0
HDR range: high
Sharpness: 1
Working with this style of timelapse camera requires a little patience. The auto focus from the mobile app is not too speedy. You must double check it several times otherwise it may not be tack sharp. The app allows for zoom control which also pairs nicely with the focus. Since working with Afidus directly they have been very responsive to making this an outstanding camera to work with. We have had this in testing, in all weather conditions, ranging in temperatures from -40 to 40 within a matter of 6 days.
During that time the lithium batteries held strong and recorded this temperature swing along with inclement successfully. On a construction site this camera is a workhorse of content capture clarity. My best on-site recommendation for this camera is that it should be checked intermittently to ensure the green blinking light is activated indicating that it’s recording.
There are so many awesome features of this unit. From the optical zoom to the detailed and sharp macro focus, low light sensor, the custom calendar with daily timer feature can be set to record weekdays only. As a time lapse content editor and creator, this means less work to trim out the non-working days. Thank you Afidus!!!!
